About Us

White Ribbon Australia is a part of a global social movement working to eliminate gendered violence. We strive for an Australian society where all women and children are safe.

White Ribbon is the world’s largest movement engaging men and boys to end men’s violence against women and girls, promote gender equality and create new opportunities for men to build positive, healthy and respectful relationships.

The White Ribbon Australia movement works through a primary prevention approach in communities, schools and workplaces across the country. Through our programs and campaigns, we engage with men to become active in the social change needed to stop men’s violence against women and children.

Our Vision

Adopted by the United Nations in 1979, the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women 'aims to ensure the full development and advancement of women, for the purpose of guaranteeing them the exercise and enjoyment of human rights and fundamental freedoms on a basis of equality with men' (article 3).

White Ribbon Australia’s vision is:

A nation where every woman is free from all forms of men's violence and abuse.

Our Purpose

Engaging men to make women's safety a man's issue too. White Ribbon Australia operates in collaboration with, and alongside, many other organizations working to end men’s violence against women. Our focus is on mobilizing men and boys and the community in a social movement to take action to eliminate men's violence and abuse against women.

Core Values

Accountability
To be transparent, responsible and trustworthy in all our activities and interactions.

Collaboration
To work collaboratively to achieve our vision of ending men's violence and abuse against women.

Diversity
To respect, understand and include all forms of diversity, to honour individual uniqueness and to celebrate differences.

Humility
To listen, learn and treat everyone with respect.

Social impact

Most men share a belief that violence against women and children is never acceptable. White Ribbon Australia invites men to be part of a movement to eliminate gendered violence.

Australia needs men to join us in thinking about the opportunities they have to make lasting change in attitudes and behaviours that ensure the safety and wellbeing of women and children. Men speaking to other men about violence against women is a powerful catalyst for change.

White Ribbon Australia’s focus is on mobilising men in their own communities to eliminate gendered violence.

White Ribbon Australia provides an opportunity for men to discuss the complexities that influence attitudes and behaviours that contribute to violence against women.

White Ribbon Australia collaborates with the community through education, awareness raising, creative campaigns, and preventative programs within a primary prevention framework.

Our strategies are based on evidence

White Ribbon Australia's work is evidence-based and supported by national and international research. It engages communities across Australia to mobilize a movement to create change.

White Ribbon Australia operates in collaboration with many other organizations working to end men’s violence against women. By working together with other organizations, including our National Plan Partners ANROWS and Our WATCH, we can make real change to stop violence against women and children, and build communities that are safe and supportive for everyone.
